Quitting Smoking And Weight Loss - Or Is It Weight Gain?

I used to smoke two to three packs each and every day of a popular name brand cigarette that comes in a red and white pack with black letters and the name begins with an "M". Enough said about that, now you know I am an ex-smoker.

Here you sit, at your computer and you want to lose weight and quit smoking. You feel as if you can not do one with out the other. Both are unhealthy and yet you are thinking you would rather smoke than gain weight. You believe that if you do not smoke you have to gain weight. Before we tackle that myth, let us look at some things learned from those who have gone before.

Addicted to cigarettes
You may think you are addicted to tobacco and it is sad to report to you that you are not that addicted. Sure I could quote all the facts about what is really in the box with the "M", but let us try this simple test. For this test you even get to smoke. I will even let you smoke as much as you want. But I want you to change your cigarettes to the roll your own kind. No, I am not talking about smoking pot, I am speaking of using plain old roll your own tobacco. You will be able to roll smoke after smoke after smoke of pure tobacco and you will still want to smoke a cigarette with the "M". This is because you are addicted to not only the tobacco but also the CHEMICALS that are ADDED to the tobacco. Doubt this? Try it for yourself.

Death by Stupidity
You have one life to live. Every year 400,000 people DIE from smoking related illnesses. Every year 300,000 people die from being over weight. So if you are an over weight smoker then there is a pretty good chance you will die from one or the other. All too often we are "politically correct". We are afraid to tell others (especially in the work place) what truly needs to be told. So here goes, just between you and me and the solitude of the monitor you are looking into right now.---"If you are an over weight smoker and you die, it was a pretty stupid thing to do." There it was said. Yes, to die from a completely preventable death is a pretty stupid thing to do.

Oh Yes, The Diet Question
It is very possible to gain weight when you quit smoking but it in fact has little to do with the slowing of your metabolism. Sure, it is a tad bit harder to lose the weight when you quit smoking but that really is just an excuse to justify your "inability" to actually quit. The reason you gain weight will more than likely be caused by the fact that you are eating more. You can not escape the reality that fat is the result of taking in more calories than you burn. Period! Nothing more and nothing less. If you quit smoking do not turn to food to keep your hands busy. Do not use food as a crutch and for heavens sake, do not use food as an excuse to keep smoking.

72 Hours
Your body is only craving nicotine for 72 hours after you quit. So why do you still want a smoke two weeks later? This is a simple question to answer. It is either all in your mind or the chemicals added make you crave something that is not tobacco. If it is in your mind, then it should be just a matter of discipline and if it is a chemical added then why the heck would you allow yourself to inhale some chemical someone created for you to get addicted to in the first place?

Before we go I now find it amusing that I used to have a nice car and always smoked with the windows opened and held the cigarette out the window. Why was I more worried about my car than my lungs?

If you want to quit then quit. If you want to lose weight then make the choice. Just do not allow yourself to make one the excuse for doing the other.

He and his wife (Sue) have been seeking knowledge on weightloss and have realized there is no magic pill to lose weight. http://www.IChooseThin.com is the destination achieved from the inadequate weight loss websites that really did not help others lose weight. Let the weight loss journey begin.

The Weight Loss Challenge

Since the last quarter of the 20th century, the prevalence of obesity has increased sharply for both adults and children. Current studies reveal increases from 15 to over 30 percent of our current population as being obese. For children aged 2 to 5 years of age, the obesity prevalence increased from 5 to 14 percent; for those 6 to 11, there was an increase from 6.5 to over 18 percent; and those 12 to 19, obesity prevalence increased from 5 to 17 percent. Obesity begins at the home where the adult leaders teach and nurture unhealthy lifelong habits. Our society reinforces the behavior with advertising and an abundant supply of unhealthy foods. These worsening statistics prove that we need better education and guidance on the importance of healthy nutrition and lifestyle.

So unfortunately, if you are living in the developed world, you will more than likely need some help and direction with your weight control. There is a strong need for safe dieting and lifestyle restructuring. To start, you need to ask yourself some simple Yes or No questions:

Are you:

Hungry?

Overweight?

Tired?

Plagued with:

Weak Concentration?

Low Self Confidence?

Poor Health?

Poor Sex Life?

If the answer is YES, then a well-rounded healthy diet plan is just what your physician should be ordering. No more pills or unnecessary alternative medical treatments like the ones you see on television. You don't need a miracle bowel cleanse. You don't need a revolutionary diet-modifying drug.

Do you have any of the problems listed above? Do you have trouble with your weight? Are you just looking to shed a couple of pounds? Have you tried one or more diets without long-term success? You aren't alone, but one among the millions of others around the world who feel a sense of hopelessness when it comes to dieting and personal health.

The dieting industry currently yields tens of billions of dollars a year. Most claims are to help you lose weight very quickly; however, read any of the fine print under the promotional pictures of the models and you will start to see the little slogan "Results not Typical." Well, what are the typical results for dieters? For starters, 90 to 99 percent of people regain the weight and then some! Many chronic dieters spend over ten thousand dollars on dieting products during their lifetimes. Wouldn't it be nice to use that money for an investment, vacation, or that special something you've always wanted? Of course it would.

There is a serious problem in America and with most of the developed world right now. That problem is customer demand fueling the food and drug corporations. Do you think they care if you are fat or thin? Maybe the individuals working in those corporations want the best for their fellow citizens, but the truth is that these corporations are in business to make a profit. What sells better? A bland tasting super healthy burger, or a juicy, fatty, scrumptious one deep fried, covered in condiments, and wrapped in sugar dough? Most will vouch for the latter.

Like the fast-food industry, the sit down restaurants are seldom better. Let's face it; our brains and bodies LOVE refined sugars and juicy fats. Therefore, the chefs and food creators at the various establishments are pushed to create that feeling of ecstasy in your mouth with these two main ingredients. And they should. You are paying them good money to make the best tasting food you've ever put in your mouth. Furthermore, do you see many restaurant reviews on the nutritional or personal health benefits gained from eating there? Of course not, and the restaurants should not be forced to do so. However, it's always nice to see healthy alternatives on the menus as well as nutritional disclosure about the meals served.

Bottom line, you've probably tried several diets without success. You have more than likely experienced part or all of the "diet cycle." The diet cycle starts when you decide to start a diet plan or product. Then, social, mental, or family pressures and roadblocks develop and you fail. You become frustrated and depressed with your failure, which leads to a return of old habits and additional weight gain. The cycle will repeat itself, again and again, if you do not adequately prepare for success and make the necessary changes in your life sustainable to break it.

You can get out of this continuous downward sequence. You can start to reverse some of the damage you've already caused your body. You can start to promote a healthier future for you and your family. It starts with the incorporation of a healthy diet and lifestyle plan. Avoid the fads and special products, and get in touch with an weight loss expert to direct you towards success.

The Secret Weight Loss Machine

There is a piece of equipment available that has been shown in clinical tests to be unsurpassed for assisting in your weight loss goals - want to know what it is?

The Treadmill - exercising on Treadmills has helped many people to achieve their weight loss goals - and it can help you too.

Treadmills can be used by virtually any age group, and by individuals of any activity level. Treadmills can help you lose weight, and maintain your weight loss.

It really is a numbers game. The more time you spend engaged in physical exercise the more calories you are going to burn and consequently the more pounds you will lose.

If you are searching for fitness equipment that will not only burn fat, but will also raise your metabolism to continue burning fat long after youve stopped exercising, then a treadmill should be at the top of your list.

The treadmill is matchless for cardiovascular exercise. According to a recent study, calories burned on the treadmill for 60 minutes averaged 865 - 705. Compare this figure to the following:

Stair machine 746 - 637
Rowing machine 739 - 606
Stationary cycle 604 - 556
Cross-country ski machine 678 - 595

As you can see the treadmill comes out as the number one cardiovascular machine.

If you would like to develop your own weight loss treadmill program here are some ideas:

Be creative - make your Treadmill session pleasurable, listen to music or audio books on your MP3 player. Some people prefer to just take the opportunity to think or just day dream. The more you enjoy your Treadmill session, the more likely you are to exercise on your treadmill regularly.

Try to exercise daily. Working out on your Treadmill regularly makes your weight loss goals much more likely to happen than if you are only working out only when the mood takes you. Most people that make the switch will tell you that it's easier to workout every day. You don't have to think about whether it's a workout day or not and get prepared for it - just exercise on your treadmill every day - your body will become accustomed to it. It will soon become part of your routine and you will begin to look forward to it.

Try to mix in some interval training into your Treadmill sessions each week. Interval training consists of brief periods (about one minute) of more intense exercise incorporated into your Treadmill workouts. You may do a one minute interval of faster walking about every five minutes throughout your workout.

Start with a three to five minute warm-up and then five minutes into your walk you do your first interval, one minute of faster walking. At the end of that minute you should be out of breath and ready to slow down. Slow down to your regular walking speed for the next four minutes and then your fifth minute is another one minute interval. Repeat this throughout your workout.

By this means you can increase your aerobic fitness level to the limits of your ability. You are in essence crossing the anaerobic threshold into anaerobic metabolism, this forces your body to accept more intense exercise which will in turn make your weight loss gains more achievable.

By increasing your basal metabolic rate, interval training cause you to burn more calories a day, and make your exercise less monotonous. Interval training also helps the time pass more quickly.

Try walking on your Treadmill with light hand weights of between one and two pounds weight for two to three days per week. Swing your arms and also use a variety of arm movements while walking. This will increase your basal metabolic rate and tone your upper body muscles.

Try to do your Treadmill workout first thing in the day. Most people who workout regularly, do so first thing in the morning. If YOU want to exercise regularly, you are more likely to succeed by being an "early bird"

In order to add a bit more variety to your routine set one day of the week aside to be your "easy day". This should be a very leisurely session. Consider how good your walks are starting to feel as you continue to lose weight and tone your body.

You have probably heard the expression "if you can't measure it, then it doesn't exist". With this in mind make sure that you record your progress. Record the date and time-of-day of your workout, and the distance and/or time you walked. Record the total of the miles or minutes you've walked. Your thoughts or feelings for that particular workout can also be logged.

All of the above measures will help to ensure that your Treadmill Exercise Session is that one special time of day to take care of yourself. Don't let anyone or anything keep you from your special time with your Treadmill. Working out on your Treadmill every day will help you achieve your weight loss goals and have a positive impact on all aspects of your life, including physical, mental, and emotional health.

If we only consider the issue of weight loss, the Treadmill is significantly superior to any other exercise machine given its associated energy expenditure. While other fitness equipment "fads" gather dust Treadmills have consistently provided quality results and lasting benefits. Treadmills allow you to work at your own pace, but don't allow you to slack off. You'll be able to burn calories efficiently and attain your weight loss targets.

Are Your Loved Ones Hindering Your Weight Loss Efforts?

Sometimes our loved ones can hinder our weight loss goals. Often times their intention is not to hinder us.

For example, I love donuts. There was a time in my life when I simply could not say "no" to them. I would wind up binging on them - I could eat 4 to 6 donuts with no problem at all.

I began a weight loss program. I was following my plan to the tee. Then on Saturday morning, my husband brought home some donuts. "Here honey, I thought you'd enjoy these." I devoured every last crumb.

My husbands intention was not to make me go off plan. He wasn't even thinking that I was trying to lose weight. He simply wanted to do something nice for me.

Your loved ones could be hindering you by tempting you with seconds, cooking your favorite foods, or buying your favorite ice cream.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Identify your loved ones behavior that is sabotaging your weight loss efforts.
  2. Identify your loved ones reasons for that behavior.
    • Are they trying to do something nice for you?
    • Do they feel appreciated when you eat their cooking?
    • Are they bringing in the ice cream for themselves, not realizing that is making you lose track of your goals?
  3. Tell your loved one what you need from him/her.

You need to be assertive. Tell them exactly what you need from him/her and why. I told my husband ...

"I really appreciate the fact that you love me so much, that you brought donuts home. However as I can't seem to say "no" to them, I would appreciate it even more if you could restrain from bringing them home. A hug from you lets me know how much you care and appreciate me."

I told him in exactly what I needed and why. I showed him I appreciated his gesture, and gave him an alternative action so that his needs would be met as well.

If you are a little apprehensive about approaching your loved one, ask yourself why. It's probably one of two reasons:

  1. You like having someone to blame for your failures. It's easy to say, "I keep blowing it because my wife is such a good cook and demands I eat seconds." Or "My husband is so nice to me he keeps buying me donuts, if I tell him to stop, he may never buy me anything again." If this is you, you need to decide how important reaching your goal really is. Take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming others.

  2. You don't know how to approach them or you don't want to hurt their feelings. If this is the case then you need to practice ... in front of the mirror, to a friend, or even to the dog. Picture yourself telling your loved one exactly what you need from him/her to help you achieve your goals.

Remember, more than anything else, your loved ones want YOU to be HAPPY and HEALTHY, and will do anything in their power to help you achieve your goals.

Exploring Weight Loss Center Options

Have you recently decided to try losing weight? If so you are not alone. In most communities, thousands of people are turning to weight loss centers for programs that will fit their budget.

If you are not interested in developing a program of exercise and nutrition on your own, or just don't have the time, a weight loss or fitness center might be your best option.

If you have never been a member of a weight loss center before, you may be wondering about what to expect. When joining a weight loss center, you will likely attend weekly, biweekly, or monthly meetings that range from a free, very loose social gathering, to an expensive, spa-like atmosphere.

Most centers require the payment of a monthly membership fee. Despite the possibility of a variance, these membership fees are almost always affordable.

The free meetings are often used to record your weight, as well as socialize and communicate with others who are looking to lose weight, just like you. You may be surprised just how many people wanting to lose weight are looking to compare notes.

On the other hand, there are weight loss centers that give you more membership benefits. These memberships may have nutritional cooking classes, instructional exercise classes, and a fully equipped fitness center for you to use.

Yes, the membership fees may be a little bit higher, but they are well worth it. The ones that give more personal instruction can put together a balanced plan for sensible weight loss.

Many people report better results because you often feel more motivated to exercise and eat healthy. You also get support from others hoping for weight loss at the same time as well.

You will want to familiarize yourself with all of your weight loss center options. This should include asking friends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, and your doctor for recommendations.

The internet and your local phone book are also good sources, especially if you are in a new area. Once you have the contact information for a number of local fitness centers, you can do a little bit better research. What you will want to do is examine all of the membership benefits, like access to healthy recipes, food journals and access to an on-site gym.

Be aware that some memberships will be long term contracts. Check if they have a shorter trial membership available. You may find you have bitten off more than you can chew and not be able to get any fees refunded.

When researching weight loss options, try not to limit your choices. By finding out what weight loss centers in your area can provide, you may be able to achieve more than one goal at a time. Lose weight, ease back pain and meet new friends with similar goals.

But if you really need to lose weight, improving your eating habits and exercising will help you more than any diet. Dieting could be a solution if done in a right manner. Build Fitness With Mild Interval Training

I mentioned this as a comment to a previous post, but I thought it deserved its own post as well. If you havent exercised in a long time and have gotten out of shape, mild interval training is a good way to rebuild endurance and cardiovascular fitness without killing yourself.

Lets say your exercise of choice is running. Maybe you can only manage to run a few minutes before your heart feels like its about to explode out of your chest and youre forced to stop for fear of passing out. Its going to take you a while to build up to 30 minutes if you simply run your maximum each day and then stop.

So instead of that, try running 1 minute then walking 1 minute, repeating this cycle for as long as you can. Youll find that you can go much further without overtaxing your heart and muscles. Maybe you can even go 10-20 minutes your first time. If run 1 walk 1 is too hard, try run 1 walk 2 or run 2 walk 3. Experiment to see what intervals work best for you. If your heart is still racing after the walking interval, increase the walking interval and/or reduce the running interval.

I recommend you aim for an initial interval that allows you to do the most amount of running in a 25 minute period. If you can only manage run 1 walk 4, thats fine. Take a week to experiment with different intervals if you need to, but find one that allows you to go 25 minutes total (even if its run 1 walk 24). You should be physically challenged but not to the point of feeling nauseous or faint.

Once youre able to go 25 minutes, gradually increase the running time and reduce the walking time. Aim to reach run 1 walk 1 for 25 minutes for an initial goal. Be patient as it may take you a few weeks to get there if youre starting with a longer walking interval.

Next, gradually increase the running period while keeping the walking period at 1 minute. Go from run 1 walk 1 to run 1:30 walk 1. Then try run 2 walk 1. Keep extending your running intervals until you can manage run 8 walk 1 for 25 minutes.

Now keep those intervals the same, and gradually build your time from 25 minutes to 45 minutes. Dont worry about distance, and dont be concerned if you run a little slower. Just put in the time. Aim to increase the total time by about 10% per week, which roughly averages out to adding about 30 seconds per day.

Once you can do run 8 walk 1 for 45 minutes, you can switch to running continuously. Youll likely find youre able to do 25 minutes continuously without any trouble. After that you can continue to increase the distance, build your speed, do harder forms of interval training, or just maintain your current routine.

The advantage of this type of interval training is that youre still spending most of the time in your aerobic range, so your circulatory system will get the benefit of that conditioning. If youre out of shape, the running intervals will spike your heart rate quickly, and your heart rate will take a while to come back down, so even while walking youll still be mostly in the aerobic range. But youll avoid burning out from having your heart rate get too high. Walking wont tire your muscles as much as running, so your legs wont give out as quickly, and you wont be quite as sore after your runs.

You can adapt this idea to other aerobic exercises as well. For swimming you can switch to a slower stroke or a glide. For bike riding you can coast instead of pedal hard.

This technique is also useful for distance running. Some people run marathons in a pattern of run 7 walk 1 (or similar intervals), and they often find their finishing times are better vs. when they run continuously. The brief walking periods slow you down in the early miles, but they make up for it in later miles by keeping your running muscles fresh. So you end up maintaining an even pace even through those last 6 miles where many people hit the wall. I once used a run 7 walk 1 pattern for a 13-mile training run, and I finished in 2 hours, which was a good time for me. I felt I was running strong all the way without dragging at the end.

Even if youre terribly out of shape, you can use mild interval training to rebuild your fitness to a healthy level without causing yourself tremendous pain and discomfort. And it probably wont take that long. A typical marathon training program can take you from running 3 miles to running 26.2 miles in six months, and that requires much more time and effort than going from 0 to 3 miles.

Alkaline Diet - How Does It Help?

Introduction

Alkaline Diet, also known as Alkaline Acid Diet, is a diet based on consumption of food such as fruits, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes but avoid dairy, meat, grains and salts. Recently, this diet has gained popularity among diet and nutrition specialists and authors. It is still in debate on the efficiency of alkaline diet because there is no concrete evidence that alkaline diet can reduce certain diseases.

As aforementioned, fruits, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes are part of alkaline diet. This is because these food released alkaline after being digested, absorbed, and metabolised. On the other hand, dairy, meat, grains and salts produce acid after the processes. Food is categorized as acid-producing or alkaline-producing based on their pH (power of Hydrogen) values, where pH 0 - 6 is acidic, pH 8 - 14 is alkaline and pH 7 is neutral (water). Hence, alkaline diet refers to the diet of having more of alkaline-producing food.

Alkaline Diet

Our blood has a pH between 7.35 and 7.45, which is slightly alkaline. Alkaline diet is based on this pH level of our blood and any diet that is high in acid-producing food will disorganise the balance. When the body tries to revitalize the equilibrium of pH in the blood, the acidity of the food will contribute to the loss of vital minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium. The imbalance will make people susceptible to illness.

Unfortunately, Western diets are more acid-producing and they consume little fresh fruits and vegetables. Due to the advent of alkaline diet, the standard of Western diet has changed considerably.

Some diet and nutrition practitioners believe that acid-producing diet may cause some chronic illness and following symptoms such as:

~ headache

~ lethargic

~ frequent flu and cold, and excess mucous production

~ anxiety, nervousness

~ polycystic ovaries, ovarian cysts, benign breast cysts

Although some believe the above conditions are the result of acid-producing diet, and consumption of fruits and vegetables is beneficial to health, some doctors think that acid-producing diet does not cause chronic disease. Other than that, there are proofs shown that alkaline diets helps to prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis, and age-related muscle wasting.

Balance diet

Although alkaline diet is preferred, it is not recommended to have extreme diet (eat all alkaline-producing food). It is healthier to strive for a balanced middle ground of both types of food. Just remember to take note of the pointers above and consult a practitioner/doctor before you want try a new diet.

10 Quick Weight Loss Tips

Eating and exercising are your partners in success when it comes to effective and quick weight loss. Dieting alone can cause a loss of muscle which not only reduces your shape, but also your ability to burn calories. When you exercise you need to eat well to support the body, as it rises up to the physical challenge.

Stick to the following quick weight loss tips and you will be able to combine healthy eating with fat burning exercise to achieve, and maintain that look you have always wanted:

  • Choose a diet that uses foods you like, and that consists of a decent variety. It should allow you to eat carbohydrates, proteins and some fats. Your body has evolved in using all these elements -- they wont harm you. The diet should let you eat 4 to 6 smaller meals a day, with snacks in between.

  • Eat low in fat, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, eat whole grains, avoid too much sugar, watch your salt intake and limit your consumption of alcohol.

  • Eat before and after exercising -- Eat at least 90 minutes before working out to fuel your body and to prevent indigestion. Eat afterwards to replace used energy.

  • Have breakfast -- Your body needs a kickstart in the morning to restart its metabolism -- don't deny it!

  • Always have nutritious snacks handy. Try to provide yourself with healthy alternatives to the wrong kinds of snacks, eat fruits, vegetable sticks, nuts, rice cakes and dried fruits.

  • Don't think of food as being "the enemy" -- When you work out regularly, you will start seeing it for what it is -- a source of energy. Ask yourself if what you are about to eat is nutritional and will give you energy. Or is it just empty calories?

  • Eat more often, but smaller portions. If you don't eat for a length of time, your metabolism will slow down.

  • If you really must be naughty and have that chocolate bar, have it after your workout. Your metabolism will be at its peak, and why not reward yourself?

  • Stay hydrated -- Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water each day. In stead of washing down a glass at a time, have a bottle of water handy and sip on it during the day.

  • Power snack before an upcoming meeting, or physical pursuit -- Stock up from the local health store with rice cakes, oats, rusks, sunflower bars, nuts and if you have a sweet tooth like me, yoghurt and honey!

Some of these may seem obvious, but we all need to be reminded sometimes of the true and healthy ways to quick weight loss -- and living an active life combined with wholesome nutrition.

Are High Protein Weight Loss Diets Safe?

High protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight, in recent years. Many of these diets promote the idea that carbohydrates should be limited, while high-protein foods such as beef, chicken, pork and fish are the main feature on the menu.

Dieters can lose weight successfully on high protein diets, but should be aware that there may be health risks associated with this type of diet.

The American Heart Association does not recommend a high-protein diet for weight loss. The AHA web site states that most diets of this type lack a balance of needed essential nutrients and, if followed for a long time, they can result in potential health problems.

Limiting higher carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, grains and low-fat dairy products usually mean eating more meats, eggs and cheese, which contain a higher percent of saturated fats. Thus, a high-protein diet can:

*prevent the body from completely burning fat
*raise cholesterol levels
*raise blood pressure
*put you at risk of vitamin deficiencies
*cause loss of muscle tissue
*damage your kidneys and liver
*make you constipated, leading to more severe bowel problems
*increase the risk of kidney stones and osteoporosis

Furthermore, the AHA specifies that eating large amounts of high-fat foods for a sustained period raises the risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and several types of cancer.

An article by Barbara Loecher (Protect Yourself From Environmental Toxins in Your Household, Prevention.com), warns that fish (including tuna), meat, poultry, and full-fat dairy products may contain man-made chemical contaminants called dioxins and polychlorinated biphenylswhich have been linked to cancer, hormone disruptions, and developmental delays in children who have been exposed before birth.

Another huge problem exists with diets requiring you to eat a greater quantity of meat. The fat-inducing hormones and antibiotics given, in great quantities, to cattle are passed right along to us, as we ingest juicy hamburgers, sizzling steaks, brats, etc., (and the BBQ grill adds its own flavorful toxins).

Our body knows how to respond to toxins, and effectively neutralizes themto an extent. However, our body was not created to live in a world filled with as many contaminants as we face daily. When our bodies become overwhelmed by these toxins, it simply produces more fat cells to hide the toxins in; we become fatter and have more difficulty losing weight.

There are ways to limit your intake of these toxins, such as choosing low-fat or fat-free dairy products, buying leaner cuts of meat, trimming off the fat and skin before cooking, and deciding that beans and lentils may be a healthier choice of protein. You could even become a vegetarian, and grow your own organic foods. But it is unrealistic to think you can live in a toxin-free environment, eat chemical-free food, and breathe toxin-free air.

My point is this before embarking or continuing on a high-protein diet, do some research, for your healths sake.

There is a healthy alternative to high-protein diets. A growing number of overweight men and women are turning to Nutritional Cleansing to achieve quick, but totally healthy and natural, weight loss. You cannot escape from toxins, in our world. But you can help your body battle the hazards of toxins.

Internal cleansing may give your body a fighting chance against fat-causing, disease-inducing toxins, so that you can lose weight and live a healthier life.

Master Cleanse Benefits

Each diet has more benefits than the mere weight loss which comes with it for the simple reason that losing weight is good for you. However, the benefits of the Master Cleanse diet are different than those of most other diets for the simple reason that it's a detox diet.

What a detox diet does is more than to simply help you to lose weight. Detoxing your body flushes out all the unhealthy chemicals, toxins, and undigested weight which has accumulated in your body due to years of unhealthy eating, stress, indigestion, and other factors.

All this unhealthy wastage inside your body can cause grave health hazards. Therefore, the Master Cleanse has many benefits which may include:

  • An improved skin, eradication of acne, and a more youthful appearance
  • Healing of stomach aches, feeling of bloatiness, indigestion, and colon issues
  • Alleviation of chronic pains which are somehow linked to the clogging of internal organs
  • A heightened energy level and lack of fatigue
  • A reduction in allergies and their symptoms
  • A rapid and massive weight loss
  • A general feeling of wellbeing and comfort
Of course, some of these benefits may not apply to you personally, while others may only serve you as a pre-emptive prevention of things which may attack you in the future, but overall, the benefits of the Master Cleanse apply to nearly every person in one form or another.

Of course, going on a detox diet like the master cleanse isn't easy. Remember, that this is a diet which you have to use only for a short time, so that even if it gets hard it's not so bad and that the benefits are well worth it.

How To Lose 40 Pounds in a Month

Just a few days ago someone asked me if it's possible to lose 40 pounds in a month, and if so how she could do it. I decided to take the answer I gave her and to make an article of it. So here it is.

But before I write about how this can be done, let me say that I suggest you give yourself more time to lose 40 lbs. A month will require some drastic measures. But if you're adamant about it, read on. You need to be aware that in order to lose 40 pounds in 30 days, you need to create a massive calorie deficit. This isn't something which is easily done. It's possible to do this in just 2 ways:

1. Use a detox diet - A detox diet cleanses your body of a great deal of undigested pounds and helps you to create a calorie deficit. A detox diet includes drinking a lot of fluids, usually water and fruit juice (fresh juice). This kind of diet flushes you out and helps to stave off hunger. In this way it's possible to lose 40 pounds fast. In a month, it can be done. However, you need to be aware that this may not be the healthiest thing to do. Using a detox diet for too long can be detrimental to the body since you're not eating a lot of necessary nutrients. It's great for fast weight loss, but don't use it for too long.

2. The second way to lose 40 lbs in a month is to create the necessary calorie deficit by working out a lot and eating in moderation. You will need to do a lot of cardio (at least 4 hours each week) and also do strength workouts, but cardio is key. You will not be building muscle tissue in this month, you will only be losing weight. If you do enough cardiovascular workouts, and eat in moderation (a lot of vegetables and fruit and short on carbs), you may be able to lose 40 pounds in 1 month. But you need to be aware that this will require a massive effort on your part.

As I said, it's possible to lose 40 pounds in a month with the right kind of determination and willpower, but I suggest you give yourself a bit more time. It'll make it easier.

Lose Weight Permanently - No. 10 - Cut Out Fats

You have made a great decision to go on a diet and lose that weight. But how do you give up the things you love? It can be so hard cruel even! But, the fact is that some foods make you fat and there is no place for them. So, when you start this diet, make sure you eliminate more fat from your diet.

Limiting fatty food intake will help in a weight loss program. Fat is, well, fattening. It is the scourge of people that need to lose weight. It may taste nice but it is no good for you. Nearly everything that contains fat will not only make you gain weight (or make it more difficult to lose weight) but will also add to your overall health risk (heart and blood vessel disease).

Fat has 9 calories per gram and proteins and carbohydrates have only 4 calories per gram. So it makes sense to avoid fat if at all possible. Try to cut down on fatty meat, butter, cooking oil and such like. Those nice cakes and pastries you love so much are out. Live with it there will be long term benefits if you can stick it out.

Foods that contain less fat are also, in general, healthier foods. They can look nice, smell nice and taste nice. They do not give you the health risks that fats can and, in addition, they can help with other things such as vitamin levels and daily roughage.

So, cut out fats and fattening foods and your diet will be well on the way to a successful outcome.

3. Eat more protein. Protein helps your body in many ways, one helps your metabolism and two helps you burn fat quicker. Protein is what helps people grow and build muscle.

4. Stop drinking soda pop. Soda pop contains so many calories it's crazy. Your basically drinking cups of sugar. Instead try and drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday. 6. Stop drinking alcohol all together or at least cut back big time. For some it might not be a big thing as you may be just a social drinker, for others you might like to have a drink everyday after a long days work. The thing is alcohol is very rich in sugar and carbohydrates and aids in your body storing fat. Definitely a thing to cut way back on if you plan on losing weight rapidly.

Don't stop and then start again. If people start and then stop their diet and exercise routine it's actually hard on your system. Rapid weight loss is much more effective when people stick with it.

The Master Cleanse Fast

You may have heard of it from a magazine or newspaper article, or maybe from a natural health journal, but what really is the master cleanse fast? The Master Cleanse Fast developed by Stanley Burroughs is a detox diet that is designed to deplete the body of years of built-up toxins resulting in youthful rejuvenation, longevity, weight loss, pain relief, improved clarity and focus, break unhealthy habits and help one determine their own food allergies.

Does the master cleanse fast really work?

This has been a controversial topic among many forums. While the arguement remains that there is not a significant amount evidence to support the claims of how the master cleanse fast works, many people who have gone through the master cleanse claim otherwise. Regardless, before attempting to go through such a fast it is important to get all the facts and information. Even those who regularly cleanse identify how important it is to go through it correctly as otherwise it could be dangerous and could potentially leave toxins where they shouldn't be. This is believed to be caused by not completing the cleanse or by performing it incorrectly. It is always a good idea to contact your doctor to address any questions or concerns.

What the master cleanse fast is not:

The master cleanse fast a.k.a. the lemonade diet isn't a method simply for losing weight quickly or a fast that involves not drinking water or any liquids. Many people feel that this diet is simply a weight loss plan in order to shed a few pounds fast. Although it is true that some people have lost around 20 lbs. in a week, it is simply not a weight loss plan. The idea surrounding the master cleanse fast is simply that - to cleanse the body from toxins and thus creating a new start which means not starting old habits. It does somebody absolutely no good to continue eating unhealthy directly after the cleanse. In fact, during the period after the cleanse, you should only put nothing but the best and healthiest foods in you and try very hard to eat organic and additive free foods. Master Cleansers believe that this method should change the way you think about diet and health, not just simply starve yourself for ten days and call it good.

Is the master cleanse diet dangerous?

The simple fact is that any diet or fitness program can be dangerous is not completed correctly. The same adheres to the master cleanse fast. Those who are in significantly poor health condition should always address a physician before attempting any diet program like the master cleanse. On a side note, many "cleansers" believe that by not going through the program, you are allowing built up toxins to continue to build up causing health problems and disease in the future. The important thing to keep in mind is that what works for some doesn't work for everyone and the final say is up to you and your doctor. Although many believe full-heartedly about the genuine advantages of going through the master cleanse fast, there are many who are very much against it and voice it boldy.

To serve your best intentions, the more you know about something, the more of an expert you are on something, the less likely it is to effect you negatively. Whether you believe the master cleanse diet works or not, always make sure you know the facts before either being an advocate or negating it. Remember as well that anything can be dangerous if not done properly from the foods we eat, where we work and how we live. Keep this in mind when deciding if the master cleanse is right for you.

Drop Pounds Fast

The most effective way to drop pounds fast is to follow a diet regimen that yields the greatest number of pounds lost in the shortest span of time, with the least amount of effort, sacrifice, or dietary readaptation.

The Calorie Shifting Diet is an example of one such diet. You can expect to lose 9 pounds every 11 days, or upwards of 20 pounds per month.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, following this crash diet does not require you to reduce your caloric intake. You do not need to count calories. You do not need to reduce your carbohydrate intake. You do not need to cut fats, sodium, or sugars out of your diet. On the contrary, while you are on this diet, you are allowed to eat as much food as you desire at every meal until you are completely satisfied, but not until you are too full. In addition, you are required to eat four full meals every day! And while you are on this diet, you are required to eat a variety of foods from all four major food groups. Moreover, in order to counter the potentially detrimental effects of rapid weight loss, you are required to take a mandatory 3-day break from the diet every 14 days. This gives your body a chance to stabilize and rest from the rapid weight loss you will have been experiencing while on this diet, before you resume this diet again for another 11 days.

It may seem too good to be true or you may wonder at how such a diet as this could even be regarded as a diet at all. But you would be pleasantly surprised to learn that this is a highly effective way to drop pounds fast, that is gaining widespread popularity. The secret to this diet is in the theory of shifting calories.

Espousal of the shifting calories theory is based on the premise that you can manipulate your body's metabolism at will to induce weight loss, not by reducing calories but buy shifting the types of calories that you consume, from meal to meal, from day to day, on a rotational basis. It is possible to consume your calories in such a sequence as to achieve this effect.

Drop pounds fast without ever going hungry or having your cravings go unsatisfied. How would you like to be 9 pounds lighter 11 days from now? The Calorie Shifting Diet will get you there! Learn how at: http://www.CalorieShiftingDiet.info

Hard-Easy Training Principle Applies to Any Sport or Fitness Program

You will not become a better athlete by doing the same training regimen each day. Athletes train by taking hard workouts on one day, feeling sore on the next, and not taking another hard workout until the muscles stop feeling sore.

It's called the hard-easy principle. If you want to become stronger or faster or increase your endurance, you have to exercise hard or long enough to make your muscles burn. Then your muscles will be sore for one or more days. If you try to exercise hard when your muscles are damaged, you will tear them and the muscles will weaken. If you wait for the soreness to disappear, your muscles will be stronger than they were before your workout. As you continue to take stressful workouts only after the soreness disappears, you will become progressively stronger and faster and have greater endurance. Athletes in most sports train once or twice a day in their sports, but they do not exercise intensely more often than every 48 hours.

There is a difference between the good burning of training and the bad pain of an injury. The good burning usually affects both sides of your body equally and disappears almost immediately after you stop exercising. The bad pain of an injury usually is worse on one side of your body, becomes more severe if you try to continue exercising and does not go away after you stop exercising.

Beat Muscle Soreness for Good

As you exercise, your main goal is to invoke a significant change in your body that will trigger your body to adapt to this change. Change is good and adaptation is what produces results.

Exercise training can have multitude of factors. A few are when you exercise, you can change the level of resistance you are using such as increasing the weight. You can change the level of stability your are using, such as switching from barbell movement to dumbell movement and you can decrease the amount of rest interval between sets. These factors are just a few that I will mention in this exercise article.

With new exercise training factors, come new muscle soreness.

To beat muscle soreness follow these three exercise recovery steps. You can start these right away to get best exercise recovery results.

  • 1. Immediately after your workout, drink 6 oz. of natural carbohydrates with L-Glutamine. I usually mix it with Apple juice
  • 2. One hour later, follow-up with a solid meal with at least 30 grams of protein. Makre sure to add vegetables and berries to your meal such as spinach and blueberries.
  • 3. Perform SMR (self-myofascial release) and static stretching on the bodyparts worked.
You will notice improved recovery and decreased in delayed onset of muscle soreness, and you will notice that you will have more energy for your next exercise workout.

With better exercise recovery, your body will stay in the race and adapt well without setting off an alarm response which can greatly hinder your training.

In future articles I will write in detail about the benefits of each of the exercise recovery steps.

Simple Weight Loss Tips

Despite the high number of people who fail to lose weight on the hundreds of diets which are on the market, losing weight is in fact rather simple. If you just maintain a proper lifestyle, you can easily see a gradual decline in your weight and fat.

Here are some simple weight loss tips you can implement today:

1. Stop eating before feeling full - Most people make the mistake of eating too much at each meal. It takes our body a while to figure out that it's full. If you stop eating when you feel that you're just shy of being full, in about 20 minutes you will not feel hungry at all and you won't overeat as much as you used to.

2. Drink a lot of water - Water is the elixir of life, but surveys show that most of us don't drink enough of it. You need to drink 8--12 glasses of water each day. This will help to make you feel fuller, less tired, more energetic, and overall healthier. Drinking cold water is better for weight loss since the body burns a lot of calories to bring up the water temperature to regular body temperature. It's a simple weight loss tip you should start following today.

3. Eat small meals - Eating too much is like walking with ankle weights: it's just plain harder. By eating too much we're burdening our body. All that it can do is to turn our excess calories into fat. The trick is to eat a lot of small meals and snacks throughout the day instead of eating 3 large meals like most people do.

4. Don't eat late at night - Eating too late has a few negative ramifications: it makes us sleep less well, our body doesn't handle food at night while we're sleeping as well as it does during the day, and it's easier to overeat at night. Try to stop eating at a reasonable hour, say 20-21PM. One trick is to brush your teeth early. This will keep you from eating again since most people don't want to have to re-brush their teeth before bedtime.

5. Become a bit more active - Being a bit more active can help you to increase your calorie burn rate and lose weight faster. There are many ways this can be done. My suggestion is to find ways to incorporate this into your regular schedule like climbing the stairs instead of taking the elevator, walking instead of driving or commuting whenever possible, and doing stretches and muscle flexes throughout the day even while you're sitting down. All of these tiny steps can accumulate to a lot of burned calories.

Follow these 5 simple and easy weight loss tips and you will find it much easier to lose weight.
